CAUSE

Christians Against the United States Empire

Non-violent, Scriptural Resistance to "Pax Americana."

A Plan of Action

If you smell "trouble in River City," and you are not like the Ostrich, you want to do something about it. You want to "vote out the rascals!" and get members of "our party" in office. Unfortunately, political measures have failed. Unless you are voting for a candidate willing to take a Christian oath of office, political action is like fighting a fire with a flame-thrower.

"Judgment begins in the House of God." (1 Peter 4:17)

Here are our suggestions. How they can be applied will vary from family to family and neighborhood to neighborhood.

Five Humanly-Impossible Steps to Resistance and Reconstruction

1. Develop the Character of Christ

Sounds simple, if not simplistic. Maybe a bit "pietistic." But Jesus was no pietist. And this step is the heart of our program to overthrow the Empire.

Jesus was such a threat to evil that He was assassinated by the Empire. The Apostle Peter tells us to "follow in His steps" "For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men" (1 Peter 2:15,21).

The character of Christ "turned the world upside down" (Acts 17:6; Psalm 146:9), and on the rubble of the Empire, Christian civilization was born. But the House of God has not been taken care of. Pagan dust has accumulated inside, and Humanistic weeds are in the garden. Christian civilization is in horrid disrepair. But Reconstruction begins not with electoral politics, but in our own lives.

Our program of personal reconstruction begins with Meditation on the Law of God.

You may continue reading this page, but if you will not commit to a systematic program of meditation on God's Laws -- in a way that commits you to active obedience -- you will never in a million years want to embark on the steps outlined below. You will not be able to resist the Empire.

Summary

Our program of meditation on God's Laws engrafts the character of Christ into our hearts, and restores the Image of God in us.

The program begins with an acknowledgment that God is sovereign, and has predestined us to glory.

Major Features

If there are two features of the U.S. Empire that need to be squarely faced, they are

Meditation on God's Law frees us from covetousness, and instructs us in a debt-free path of simple living enriched by spiritual wealth and dominion-oriented stewardship.

Meditation on God's Law frees us from anger and the desire to be as gods (Genesis 3:5). We need not resort to violence when frustrated, nor do we gullibly and selfishly believe the promises of politicians that public policies rooted in vengeance will bring us God's blessing.

2. Hospitality and the "Works of Mercy"

Only when our covetousness has been conquered and our quest for "personal peace and affluence" terminated will we be likely to find ourselves on the right hand of Christ the Lord.

Matthew 25:32ff.
37 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink?
38 'When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You?
39 'Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?'
40 "And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.'

If you're like me, you grew up in "suburbia," a place self-consciously designed to keep its inhabitants from ever seeing a homeless person, a convict, or anyone whose life was not TVpicture-perfect. Have you ever visited someone in jail? Lodged a stranger? Read Matthew 25 and ask yourself what King Jesus is going to say to you.

Christians must begin to reconstruct the very concept of

Community

The days of the Ozzie and Harriet "nuclear family" -- pampered, isolated, entertained, irrelevant -- have long been over. Patriarchy and extended families are the Biblical norm and will be the basis for long-term reconstruction of civilization. The Patriarch Abraham had hundreds of people in his household. He resisted the Empires of his day (Genesis 13-14).

3. Repudiation of False Weights and Measures

The Bible says "false weights and measures" are an abomination to God.

The U.S. Constitution prohibits "paper money," or the emitting of "bills of credit." (Art. 1, §10, ¶1) That provision reads:

"No State shall enter into any treaty, alliance, or confederation; grant letters of marque and reprisal; coin money; emit bills of credit; make any thing but gold and silver a legal tender in payment of debts; pass any bill of attainder, ex-post-facto law, or law impairing the obligation of contracts; or grant any title of nobility." ...

James Madison, in Federalist Paper No. 44, explained the provision:

The extension of the prohibition to bills of credit must give pleasure to every citizen, in proportion to his love of justice and his knowledge of the true springs of public prosperity. The loss which America has sustained since the peace, from the pestilent effects of paper money on the necessary confidence between man and man, on the necessary confidence in the public councils, on the industry and morals of the people, and on the character of republican government, constitutes an enormous debt against the States chargeable with this unadvised measure, which must long remain unsatisfied; or rather an accumulation of guilt, which can be expiated no otherwise than by a voluntary sacrifice on the altar of justice, of the power which has been the instrument of it. . . . No one of these mischiefs is less incident to a power in the States to emit paper money, than to coin gold or silver. The power to make any thing but gold and silver a tender in payment of debts, is withdrawn from the States, on the same principle with that of issuing a paper currency.

The paper money of the Empire is a "false weight." It is an abomination.Yet the overwhelming majority of Americans -- and even Christians -- are utterly oblivious to what the Constitution says about the issue or why the Founding Fathers ratified such a provision.

A paper money economy is designed to foster a consumption mentality. No one saves for the future if they know the money will be worth less. People are inclined to go into debt, rather than to work, to get the things they want NOW, rather than defer gratification for some future-oriented purpose. Thus, corporations are able to capitalize quickly, without the discipline which comes by successfully providing goods or services which are valued by people of good character, and they can depend on debtor-consumers to buy their goods with newly-printed money. Paper money is the engine of Empire; the antithesis of everything Christian civilization stands for.

Without getting into a detailed analysis of the effects of paper money, it can be succinctly stated: your lifestyle would be unimaginably altered if the Empire suddenly repudiated paper money and followed the Constitution.

But the Constitution is -- at this point -- grounded squarely on Biblical Law. Both the Founding Fathers and the Bible view Federal Reserve Notes as immoral. You are not ready to exercise dominion and practice pure religion (James 1:27) until you fully understand this phrase:

Federal Reserve Notes are not a moral tender.

Thus, whether or not the Empire suddenly begins following the Constitution, Christians should begin doing so immediately.

The implications are staggering.

4. Repudiation of the Secular Humanist State

The Apostles were commanded by flunkies of the Empire not to preach the Good News of Christ's Lordship. They disobeyed. Some parts of the New Testament were written from prison.

Christianity and Biblical Law are the foundation of law and order. Society crumbles as men depart from God's Revelation. Christians are not against Law and Order.

But Christians must obey God rather than man (Acts 5:29).

And in the American Empire, this means a Christian is persona non grata. In fact, any Christian who is prepared to disobey constitutionally-passed laws when prohibited by a Biblically-informed conscience from doing so cannot become a naturalized American citizen. A citizen by birth who is prepared to obey God rather than man cannot become an attorney, a teacher, and in some states even a certified elevator inspector.

Theonomic Christians are not allowed to take the oath to "support the Constitution."

Ultimately, Christians are going to have to choose between a citizenship in heaven and their citizenship in the American Empire (Philippians 3:20).

The author of this web page passed the California Bar Exam and is otherwise qualified to practice law in the State of California. His request to take an oath which places his allegiance to the Empire under his allegiance to God -- and was taken from the 1776 Delaware Constitution -- was denied. His case is presently being decided by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Further research has led him to conclude that Christians cannot legally become American citizens. Information on that case and the results of that research are found here.

A Biblical critique of the claimed moral legitimacy of the Empire is found here.

UPDATE! The case was appealed all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. They refused to hear it. In fact, no court ever reached the merits of the case. Many lessons have been learned in the course of this 10-year struggle. You can benefit from them by contacting us.

5. Vine & Fig Tree: Reconstructing our World-and-Life-View

We will fail if we walk by sight; we must walk by faith (2 Corinthians 5:7). We must see the world through Biblical glasses. Vine & Fig Tree is a Biblical Paradigm: a way of looking at life. It is grounded in God's Law and energized by prophetic hope. If you are considering the Christian CAUSE, you need a World-and-Life-View which can support resistance against the world (James 4:4). Consider sitting under the Vine & Fig Tree.
